These weathered New England rails have carried countless trains, people, and stories, but here the tracks split and the direction is no longer certain. Steel, old timber, rust, and stone come together at a railroad switch built for one simple purpose: choosing which way comes next.
I photographed this because I’m drawn to the pieces of New England most people pass without noticing. Old rail lines are part of that landscape. They once connected mills, towns, ports, and people, and traces of that history are still sitting quietly beneath our feet.
